Official statistics confirm another good season on the Gaula 22.12.2011 16:24

Bridge Pool covered in less snow than last year.

As usual it took a while until all catches from the Gaula were reported in and the total figures were published. The official statistic is finalized and we are proud to say that the Gaula had another great season with a total catch in 2011 of 36 ½ tons / 36.481 kilo/ 80,441 lb.

Considering that our season is only 3 months “short” and taking into account the tough start of the season it is an excellent result for the entire river. So while fly fishing conditions were difficult due to yo-yo like water levels most of the season, the 2 tons of fly caught salmon on the NFC beats were impressive. It’s now spawning time on the Gaula – and the right time to book in for season 2012! Fish a free prime weekend* (3 days)! 28.10.2011 15:36

A few salmon in full spawning colour, photographed during the last two weeks by our film team, which just finished their last shots for our new Gaula movie coming up next spring.

After our season finished on the 31st of August, the Gaula rested in peace and the salmon are changing their outfit and starting to prepare for spawning. Some late runs usually fill up the system and once the temperatures drop around mid October and the first snow falls on the mountain tops, the salmon get into the spawning mood.

Slow backend following the 100-years-flood 07.09.2011 23:03
During the last week the fishing was by no means easy. Whilst in most years the backend often brings rain after a low water period causing fish to start to move and respond well to our flies – this year was different. After longer periods with too high water – not least the 100-year-flood reported previously here – we had to admit that despite a good water level the fish were rather reluctant in the face of our fishing efforts. But some of our guests were successful. Henry Giles was able to catch the first fish of the week in one of our “free for all” beats.
