Very low water on the Gaula – Dry fly and wet wading time!

July 28, 2014, 11:22 a.m.

All last week has been very hot and the water level kept on dropping constantly to a very low level, even below 10m³ at the Gaulfossen. As well water temperatures went up to over 20 °C which means that salmon fishing gets very difficult. Despite these bad conditions our fishermen still caught some fish, lost several more and had some action ...

Fresh fish arrived on the Gaula!

July 7, 2014, 12:51 p.m.

While water levels were constantly dropping and water and weather conditions were actually very good, we had a slow start into week 27 – we had a few lost fish and our Swiss guest Gerardo Zappa was able to catch and release a grilse on Beat B1.  But things should change by middle of the week. Suddenly a good run of fresh fish arrived on our lower Beats ...

A few more nice catches after last weeks flood on NFC waters.

July 1, 2014, 3:16 p.m.

The water level constantly dropped during last week. The higher water certainly made the fish moving and so our fishermen were able to land some nice fish. ...

Week 26 started with 3 great fish after the flood and a few fish lost!

June 23, 2014, 8:54 p.m.

After a week of miserable weather and very cold temperatures, the new week started off with a flood due to heavy rainfall. The river rose up to over 500 m³ at the Gaulfossen on Sunday afternoon and the river looked almost unfishable, but we had 2 clients from the Netherlands who were very eager to get out, no matter what, just to do some casts down here at our Lodge Pool – which turned out to be a very good decision! After only an hour of fishing Vincent Bekke was able to hook a good fish, and after an exiting fight he was able to release his first salmon! Congratulations Vincent!

Week 25 starts great!

June 16, 2014, 2:28 p.m.

After the high water in the beginning of last week the fishing did not pick up as we hoped it would. Even though we had rather good conditions the big run did not arrive. Finally on Thursday we got reports that suddenly a good number of fish were running through the lower river and that some fish had been caught down there ...

2013 Season comes to an end!

Sept. 13, 2013, 8:55 p.m.

During the last two weeks of the season the fishing remained challenging compared to what we had hoped for- even though the conditions were not too bad. We had hoped that after the flood in week 33 that a good number of fresh fish would run the river, and although some fresh fish were seen and caught, no great numbers showed up. Our conclusion was similar to may rivers not only in Norway, but throughout the Atlantic Salmon world- the runs were simply not as strong as we had all expected ...

Week 33 – high water again & tough fishing conditions!

Aug. 22, 2013, 3:05 p.m.

On Sunday evening at our weekly dinner and start meeting we were not sure if the weather forecast was correct. There were prospected to fall 148mm of rain within 48 hours! This would have meant a huge flood. We prepared ourselves and brought in all our shelters and benches from the river banks on Monday morning and waited to see what would happen ...

Week 32 – Another good week on the Gaula!

Aug. 11, 2013, 11:16 p.m.

Week 31 – Good fishing on the Gaula with a very successful salmon fishing course!

Aug. 5, 2013, 12:51 a.m.

The week 31 started with a lower water level, but due to the rise in the water level last week there were a few fresh fish running. The lower water level was actually perfect to start for our salmon fishing course, which was taking place this week with 7 new salmon fishermen. Bernd Kuleisa from Germany has been hosting a course for many years on the NFC waters, mostly with German clients ...

Week 29 - Gaula fishing is still challenging- but seems to be picking up!

July 23, 2013, 12:38 a.m.

On Saturday evening it began to rain heavily and the river rose quite a bit by Sunday when our new week started. Due to constant rainfalls the river continued rising until Tuesday evening when it finally began to stabilize.   Regardless, during the rising water a few fish were caught for example on Beat C2 a “bigger” grilse of 3,3kg was landed by Robert Heintschel from Austria and a couple of other grilse at our Beat BS1 were caught our Swedish group led by Mikael Tholin ...

Difficult season on the Gaula – and yet some good fish have been caught on the NFC Beats.

July 14, 2013, 1:47 p.m.

The fishing has continued to be more difficult than usual. The reasons for this rather slow season all over Norway cannot be easily explained and it seems even scientists have not a concluded an explanation yet- but Gaula is not the only watershed which has experienced a slow season. ...

Still rather slow fishing on the Gaula – but some nice fish have been caught!

June 28, 2013, 6:39 p.m.

Following the flood this past week, we had expected a boost in the fishing as new fish enter into the river system, but the fishing did not picked up the way we had hoped. But this is not just on our beats, the fishing on the whole river as well as on neighbouring rivers (and actually in many rivers throughout Norway) has not been good. But the test-net used for tagging fish to track them, done by NINA (Norsk Institut for Naturforskning) in the outer fjord areas had a good number of fish caught lately ...

Slow fishing on the Gaula - but fish seem to be finally on the way.

June 20, 2013, 2:41 p.m.

The fishing is still pretty slow in light of the relatively good conditions all season long and our high hopes at the beginning of the season. It seems to be a slow season start all over Norway and even in Russia the opening was slow. This may be caused by the long winter which kept the fjord and the sea temperature cold for a long time, which may be the reason why the salmon have not begun to run the up the rivers ...

The fishing seems to be picking up!

June 17, 2013, 5:21 p.m.

Just when the water was about to finally drop to a perfect level and was clearing up we got a lot of rain and another flood made fishing very tough again. Finally the weather forecast is looking promising, the river is dropping quickly and the fist fish have been landed already.
